1. Six letter books, 1869-1883. These contain letters, memoranda, word lists, sermons and essays. Subjects include Fijian kinship systems, Fijian riddles, cannibalism, blackbirding, the slave trade and mission administration. George Brown the Smithsonian Institute and various newspapers. 2. Letters to Fison from individuals including W.W. Skeat, A.W. Howitt, R.H. Codington, J.G. Frazer, Basil Thomson, J.B. Thurston and William McGregor. 3. Manuscripts and proofs of articles relating to Fijian, New Guinea and Australian Aboriginal kinship language and land tenure. 4. Notes and tables by Fison or Australian native languages; includes seven returned questionaires sent by Fison, and kinship tables for the Narrinyeri and several Murray River tribes. Some notes refer also to Fijian and Dobo languages. 5. Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of Victoria, Vol. X (1874.) Includes article by Fison TĚ€he Cassificatory System of Kinship' with notes on cover. Also includes: 1. Transcripts of Fison's letters to Goldwin Smith 1869-1870 and Lewis Morgan 1870-1873. 2. Transcripts of letters to Lewis Morgan 1875-1881. 3. Transcripts of letters to A.W. Howitt 1873-1879. 4. Transcripts of letters to A.W. Howitt 1879-1880. Also: transcripts of letters from vol. 2 of the letterbooks including (1) letter to Codrington and Tylor, (2) letters to Fison's family in England.a.
